Tips on Taking Amazing Photos Using Your Digital Camera

They say that to be able to take amazing photos you will need to first have your own digital SLR. Of course if you are aiming to take great shots that will allow you to adjust every setting possible, then it is true that a DSLR is the right one for you. However, if you have great eye for details and you have mastered your own compact digital camera, then it is possible to take great shots. At most, the result of creating amazing photos is because the person holding the camera has the skills and great eye for details. But of course, it is also essential to have all the right camera equipment needed if this is truly going to be a hobby. Once you have your own DSLR, comes the next phase of learning how you can be able to take amazing photos. One consideration that you should also include with your DSLR is your lens. When you are taking portrait lens better use a longer lens to create a more interesting image. Shots at 200mm or 85mm can create beautiful image that will let you create flattering subjects without too much distortion. Even if you are using your digital camera you can still find great ways to capture great shots. One way to do it is to find angles that aren't eye level. As it is most expected when using your camera that most shots are within eye level, making it just looks ordinary. But if you see a shot that is not within the eye level, you can be able to create a different picture that may not even look like you used a compact digital camera. Challenge yourself to find different angle from above or below eye-level. This technique can also be used to flatter your subject having a different body height and type. Another great way to take amazing shots using your digital camera especially if you are outdoor during a hot sunny day is to use artificial lights. Artificial lights with the use of speedlites will help in overpowering the sun and thus you will underexpose the background creating a more dramatic effect.

Quick Guide On How To Pick Your First Mirrorless Interchangeable Camera System

According to Samsung, mirrorless interchangeable cameras (MILC) are the future. Samsung, and many experts also predict that the sales of MILC cameras will eventually surpass digital SLR cameras. Today, they are not less than a dozen MILC cameras and 30-40 lenses available.

Basically, MILC system camera has a larger sensor equal to those in digital SLR camera but it does not has mirror and optical viewfinder like DSLR cameras. Therefore, milc camera has considerable less bulk and weight.

However, you might be confused on which MILC system is the best for your needs and experience. Just like DSLR camera system, choosing the best suited MILC system is very important to enhance your photography experience.

Up to date, there are three major systems to consider. The first one is micro four thirds system which include Panasonic and Olympus. The second one is Samsung NX system and the last one is Sony NEX system.

I would suggest Panasonic if you want the most responsive cameras with tones of lenses in their arsenal.

Panasonic micro four thirds system cameras is famous for its auto focus performance which almost equal to beginner digital SLR camera.

Panasonic offers two kinds of design. The first one has built-in electronic viewfinder and DSLR like grip. This kind is like a mini DSLR. For example: Panasonic G1, G2, GH1 and GH2. The second version is more compact due to no EVF and DSLR like grip. It looks like enlarged compact camera. For example: Panasonic GF1. The overall design is geared towards function rather than aesthetic appeal.

So far, Panasonic has the best lens collection and some of them are very high quality such as Panasonic Leica 45mm f/2.8 macro lens. Because Panasonic belongs to micro four thirds system, it can use Olympus m43 lenses too or if you use appropriate adapter, you can use other manufacturers and old legacy lens from film era as well.

I would suggest Olympus if you want to be unique and fashionable

Olympus is the second company to release MILC camera after Panasonic. Unlike Panasonic, Olympus does care on aesthetic. For example, Olympus PEN E-P1 is a very nice looking camera. Its design derived from vintage camera from film era.

Olympus has unique feature which is built-in sensor image stabilization which will work with any lenses mounted on it. As a result, Olympus lens is considerably smaller than other lenses which employ lens-based image stabilization. Fixed focal length lenses will also get benefit from this technology.

Like Panasonic, Olympus also belongs to micro four thirds system, so you can use the lens interchangeably with Panasonic or other lenses that have micro four thirds mount.

However, the downside of Olympus is on auto focus and general performance. It starts up time and auto focus system is twice slower than other MILC camera system. In addition, some of their cameras including E-P1, E-P2 do not have built-in flash and all of their current camera do not have built-in electronic viewfinder. (Olympus might plan to release one next year).

I would suggest Samsung NX if you love great interface, handling and control

Samsung is a relative new comer in MILC system, but it is very ambitious to bring the best MILC system to the market. Generally, Samsung camera performance is almost equal to Panasonic cameras, and it employs larger sensor than micro four thirds system (Olympus and Panasonic). Therefore, it has slight advantage in low light photography and dynamic range.

So far, Samsung has two designs. NX10, their first camera, has built-in electronic viewfinder and the newer NX100 does not has it. The design is modern and simple.

What unique about Samsung NX system is their lenses. Some of the new ones has i-Function features, which you can use focus ring on lens to change various setting such as ISO, WB, etc.

NX system interface is nicely designed with great looking graphic and typography. It is great especially for beginners.

There is no considerable downside to this system other than they don't have many lenses available yet. But they seem to be very enthusiastic about this system and will launch five more lenses next year.

I would suggest Sony NEX if you are point of shoot shooters and love to be in style

Sony NEX is famous because it is the smallest MILC cameras in the market, yet it has large sensor equal to those of DSLR cameras. Like most Sony products, its design is stylist and relative high quality. For example, it lenses are made from aluminum case instead of plastic. Performance wise, Sony NEX system is only a tad slower than Panasonic system.

Sony NEX system is very friendly to beginners. Its interface is made as simple as possible. If you are used to point of shoot camera and have little or no knowledge about photography, learning how to operate Sony NEX will be a piece of cake.

However, if you are experienced photographers, you might be a bit disappointed with the interface. It takes many button presses until you can set the camera according to your will.

Like Samsung NX, Sony NEX system is very new, so lens collection is somewhat limited in 2010. But due to good sales outlook of NEX system, we can expect more lenses from Sony in the new future.

I hope this article could give you an idea on which system is the best for you. Happy shooting!

Photography Representation In Media

Photography is a hobby for many people and a professional for many others. Some people invest their time, energy and career in nature photography while some others do it for capturing the faces of injustice in a war torn country. Either ways photography plays a bigger role in bringing us closer to the world through pictures.

Photojournalism is one such career that many people opt for as it fulfills the dual need of journalism and photography.

Photojournalism is referred as still photography though news channels and television journalists like to shoot a video, which is a technologically advanced form of photography.

New breeds of photographers have started experimenting with candid photography, which for all its commercial purpose has been a success. Photography has indeed branched out in so many niche applications that it can now be seen as a full-fledged career option.

The credit goes to photojournalism, as this was the starting career option until it branched out into various other forms. The first event related photography can be dated back to the 1850’s and they were being printed as engravings. Some of the famous events like the Crimean War from 1853 to 1856 led to some pioneering works in photography by Roger Fenton and William Simpson.

The latter worked with the Illustrated London News. Their photographs of the War were engraved before they were published. The same was the case with Matthew Brady who took photographs of the American Civil War as they were engraved first before being printed in Harper’s Weekly. Some of the most acclaimed photographs were also displayed in Museums like the Fratelli Alinari - Archivi Alinari, George Eastman House, German Historical Museum, Helios, Museum Of Modern Art, New York and many more.

The Daily Graphic, New York published the first half tone photograph on March 4, 1880. This also meant that photographs don’t have to be engraved anymore before being published. Through progressive innovations, by 1897 it was possible to print a halftone photograph on the printing press. Many innovations later, with the dawn of 1930 started the Golden age of photojournalism. The commercial 35mm Leica camera was developed in 1925, and the flash bulbs followed between 1927 and 1930 to mark the start of the Golden era.

The Golden age between 1930 and 1950 helped magazines and newspapers build their reputation and readership through news articles with photographs. This was also the time when Mother Dorothea Lange brought out seminal photos of the Great Depression.

After the Golden age, in 1960 many other innovations took photography to a new level. The camera’s now had electronic flash, auto-focus, motor drives, good lenses and other enhancements that made it easier to take pictures of objects, people and motion. Then the micro-drive was introduced and it helped photographers store hundreds of positives on a single chip.

Today, technology has gone many steps ahead by bringing in digital cameras through which photographers can not only take hundreds of picture and save it but they can also change the background or improve the color with the help of computer software. We are truly in a digital world today where photography has adorned a three dimensional change.

Stereo Microscope - Smart Guideline

A microscope is a scientific instrument that is used to amplify the appearance of a tiny object for further research. In the market, you can find an amount of different microscopes that is available. One of the microscopes available out there is the stereo microscope.

Using a stereo microscope, each eye sees a separate eyepiece that is outfitted with a prism. Meanwhile, a bulb at the microscope bottom projects light through the sample and the lens for magnification. This way is reflected by the prism, so it can make the image larger.
It is known that this device uses two prisms, while each eye looks into the sample in the microscope independently. As the result, the image has a three-dimensional appearance.

This type of microscopes is frequently used for the dissections of laboratory. It is also usually used in the room of operation for guiding the surgeons in doing their surgery on a very small area.

It was invented for the first time by Cherubin d'Orleans in 1657. Then, it was developed by the American Optical Company. As the result, the modern model of this microscope debuted 300 years later in 1957. Nowadays, it is produced by some companies, such as Olympus, Leica, Nilkon, and Zeiss. Of course, along with the advance of technology, it will experience the development day by day.

Several stereo microscopes are mounted with the cameras that are small, but can record any work being performed on the area. The small cameras are also able to project the image onto a large screen.

The Worlds Best Binoculars, A Personal Choice

The question is which of the market leaders in the field of optics can lay claim to having produced the world’s best binocularsc

It’s not too hard to identify those that deserve a place in a directory for the world’s best binoculars, optics are specialist bits of kit and there is a clear divide between the basically poor, the reasonable to good quality and the exceptional. However to single out one of the exceptional as the out and out best binoculars isn’t so easy given that personal taste and binocular application both have a strong influence in the decision.

What can be said is that for any pair of binoculars to feature in a world’s best binoculars list they must create a passion, excite you when you pick them up and make you never want to put them down. An exceptional pair of binoculars should not only have outstanding quality optics but be so well balanced that you don’t even know they are in your hand allowing you to observe for extended periods of time in perfect comfort.

Unless you have experienced the difference between good and absolutely superb you won’t ever understand how the world’s best feels, so, if you really want to know just test a pair of Swarovski 8.5 x 42 EL’s against perhaps a Pentax DCF SP 8 x 43. The Pentax is good, very good but the Swarovski is special. One word of warning, don’t do this unless you can afford to upgrade as lesser priced binoculars will never seem the same again!!

As I said personal taste is important and there will often be disagreements with one user believing that Swarovski are the world’s best binoculars while another will swear by Leica (for example) but what the top binoculars have in common is the manufacturers absolute attention to detail in regards to design, weight, size and balance and the exceptional quality of the optics and optical coatings.

Application is really important because the world’s best binoculars for birding would be absolutely useless for astronomy or for the marine environment and binoculars that work well for sports, travel or theatre wouldn’t be so good for observing nature or hunting.

For marine use the Steiner Commander binoculars are hard to beat. They are the only marine binoculars to come with Steiner’s Nano protection against the environment, they are salt water resistant, waterproof to 10mtrs, have long life NBR rubber armouring, high performance optics, interchangeable eyecup system with a specific eyecup for spectacle wearers and a 30 year guarantee. These are truly professional marine binoculars which deliver an amazing performance in all light conditions, a strong contender for the world’s best binoculars in a marine environment. Other options are the Nikon Stabileyes which are twice the price but offer image stabilizing technology or Canon IS binoculars although these are specifically designed for marine use.

If you are after image stabilizing binoculars take a look at the Canon 10x42 WP IS binoculars. Users absolutely rave about them. They are the first binoculars with lenses which carry the red L-series ring only previously found on Canon professional camera lenses, are fully waterproof and have unrivalled IS capabilities (in any moving environment).

For the world’s best binoculars for birding you might want to try the Swarovski EL 8.5 x 42’s, a truly outstanding bit of kit which delivers a user experience you will never forget. Another great bird binocular is the Leica Ultravid 42 series, absolutely stunning binos, compact (for their class) and yet exceptionally bright.

The best giant binoculars can deliver some stunning views of sky objects and the right ones make an excellent addition to the astronomer’s toolbox. Fujinon produce top quality astronomy binoculars (up to 150mm objective diameter) although at a price which is beyond the reach of the average user. The Nikon 10 x 70 IF SP WP’s are more affordable and make an excellent pair of astronomy binoculars.

Fujinon also make some of the world’s best night vision binoculars but they come with a very high price tag!

For every application there is often a different short list for the ‘world’s best binoculars’ in that class so as a starting point you need to decide exactly what you want to use your binoculars for. This will then enable you to narrow down your search in regard to magnification, size of objective lens etc. and manufacturers generally indicate suitable applications for their binoculars. Always check out the quality of the lenses and lens coatings, don’t settle for anything less than fully multi-coated optics and Bak-4 prisms (unless price is an issue for you). Price isn’t always an indication as to how good a pair of binoculars is so birding / astronomy forums etc are a good place to find those little gems that perform as well as the known top performers but for a lesser price tag.

Happy hunting for the world’s best binoculars…..

The cold is one of the things that are difficult to endure when you are in an outdoor escapade. You could endure not having water or some food for hours, but it is quite difficult and at times impossible to last in a cabin without any heating system. How you wish you could bring the electronic you have at your house, but of course this is something you could not do. What can you do thenc Will you be able to last the cold without doing anythingc Will you bring a lot of blankets and jackets for your source of heatc If you do this, you would end up every single blanket and jacket you have at home, which are all very bulky and heavy, but amidst all this effort, they will never be enough to make you trip warm enough to make you feel comfortable.
Panasonic Lumix FZ40 vs FZ100 - Point and Shoot Super-Zoom Shoot-out

Panasonic is trying to confuse the camera buying public, rightc Why else would they produce cameras that look alike, act alike, and feel alike, but have different price tagsc

It's true. The Panasonic Lumix FZ40 and FZ100 point and shoot cameras appear to be nearly identical, yet their cost is more than 0 different.

There are reasons, and we will discuss them shortly, but first, let's take a look at the things that are virtually the same.

* 14.1-megapixel resolution
* 24x optical zoom (in terms of a 35mm camera, that is equivalent to 25mm -600mm)
* 25mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens
* 3" LCD
* Intelligent Auto (iA) for creative scene modes * HD video

Both cameras have the great zoom lens making them ideal for consideration as your next vacation camera. Not only is it 24x, but it is made by one of the most respected names in lens quality construction - Leica.

So what is it that makes one camera worth so much morec Well, there are actually a few things.

1. CCD vs CMOS sensor - Even though they have the same megapixel resolution, the FZ100 has the CMOS sensor. This is the same type sensor as the big boys have - you know, the Digital SLR models.
2. The FZ40 does not have the ability to attach an external flash while the sibling does. This is a big deal for some avid hobbyists.
3. Video for the FZ40 is 720p while the FZ100 is a full 1080p
4. LCD screens are both 3", but the less expensive camera has a lower dot count at 230,000 dots vs 460,000 dots.
5. Articulating LCD screen on the more expensive model, while the other has a standard stationary LCD screen.
6. Continuous shooting is significantly different. The Panasonic FZ100 can capture 11 frames per second vs 1.8 frames per second. Not even the big boys can boast that kind of speed (11 fps).

Now, when you are looking at the cameras side-by-side, they truly look the same, but check out the user comments at the online stores. There are more satisfied users of the FZ40. One fairly accomplished photographer put it like this:

"...the Panasonic FZ-40 is probably as good as P&S's will get with the current technology. Some day someone will figure out how to get a bigger and better sensor to work with a mega-zoom lens, but until then, the FZ-40 is my choice."

Endorsements like this are not uncommon about either model.

Best New Travel Camera - Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ40 Is A True Player

Looking for a travel camerac One that does not require a sidecar to carry all the extra gear needed to get the picture you wantc The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX40 deserves a hard look.

Panasonic seems to be able to produce excellent compact cameras. They do pretty well in the DSLR market, too, but their forte is compacts.

The engineers at Panasonic have been working hard on improving the technology needed to pair zoom with excellent image quality. It's not easy to get both.

So when you see the user ratings for the newest "travel camera", you kind of do a double-take. The camera only came out in July, so the technology is the newest possible, but so far there is not one negative rating. Usually there will be one or two who either had a faulty camera or just had a bad day when they first tested it, but in this case... nada... nothing negative.

So what makes this camera a travel camerac

Basically, what you want in a camera on vacation is the ability to take almost any type of photo. From family portraits to street scenes, to nature shots where a super zoom is necessary. You name it, and you want to be able to take it.

With a wide angle equivalent of 25mm and a telephoto equivalent of 600mm (if you do the math, that is 24X), the Lumix FZ40 qualifies on all counts.

Then you add in the new technology that is being called "intelligent resolution technology" for sharp images, and you have a winner in the travel camera category.

Another plus is the lens which is manufactured by Leica, a trusted name in camera and lens quality.

Having used DSLR cameras for quite some time, the benefits I like best are the choice between viewing your image in a view finder or on the live view LCD panel. Plus the option to use the jpeg creative settings for image output or capturing in RAW for a higher resolution picture that can be edited later on your computer.

The high quality LCD screen is excellent for use with the HD video feature. And, speaking of video, the 24X zoom means getting close up video of distant places and activities.

All in all, the Panasonic Lumix FZ40 deserves a second and third look.

You can compare the features of travel cameras at www.digital-photographic-resources.com/cameras/travel-compact.html.
